I am an Artist from the North of England. I specialise in acrylic paintings in a modern impressionist/expressionist style. In my paintings expression is very important to me. My technique is often impulsive and fast. I like to portray movement and feeling. In my endeavour to create a fresh and spontaneous feel to my work I often have to restart a painting many times over until I am happy I have caught a gesture or expression in a fresh authentic manner. I am influenced by artists such as Manet and Lautrex and more contemporary figures such an Diebenkorn and Uglow. I love painting landscapes and cityscapes but I also have a particular interest in creating portraits of contemporary musicians of whom I have a great appreciation for. I will never post a portrait here unless I feel I have managed to capture a small part of their spirit and nature not just their physical likeness. Each portrait is a conclusion of many false starts and reworkings until I feel I have captured their sprit and imbued a authentic appreciation of their own art. To help me in this process I will listen to the the artist’s music as I work often their whole back catelogue which I find essential to my working process.
I am new to Etsy but have been selling my work to collectors all over the world for nearly 20 years through different platforms and exhibitions.
