Elements in Brown, Too
By Arty Aitch
One in a series of 4 paintings I have done. Two of them were sold as soon as they went on the site, this one sold towards the end of 2006. Abstract in style, the paintings were done using a palette knife, my fingers and thumb. I painted using the paint straight from the tube onto the canvas or the relevant tool. This seems to give the painting more depth, since you can really move the paint around as you work. There are areas in this painting that are emphasised due to the relief effect of using paint straight from the tube through a fine nozzle - the gold lines across the top and in vertical lines at the lower end of the painting are done in such a mannner. I had an autumnal theme in mind also when I painted this one. The whole set of four is reminiscent of nature and the earth, as well as having some very basic pattern structures which work well with the contrasting areas of colour. I have used acrylic paint and the painting is carried around the edges of the canvas, so there is no need for additional framing.
Completion date:August 1st 2006.
