Three of us from the Surrey Sculpture Society (Christine Smith, Nora Cook and myself) presented our work to the Arts Committee of St Peter’s Hospital. We were there to lend some of our sculptures to the hospital for two of the small gardens contained within the hospital building. We agreed to lend 5 sculptures initially, and later another 5 works from Sally Wimpress were included. At the end of a successful meeting I was asked if I would be interested in producing a large stone sculpture for the outside of the hospital, to be positioned on this grass bank. I was asked to consider an ‘organic’ design for the sculpture.
