Lurraga Land Wars

When Dolores Keane once sang “You can’t own the land, the land owns you” she obviously hadn’t foreseen the charge of the Celtic Tiger.  Small local disputes over planning permission and building seem to be a microcosm of what’s happened in Ireland over the last ten years. It’s the edgy conflict between the needs of rural communities and the need to preserve the countryside for future generations.
If The Irish myths were set today, all the heroes would be big-shot developers fighting over rezoned scraps of meadowland and they’d charge into battle on brand new JCBs.
