Croaghateeaun Fairy Fort 1
By tim bradford
We call the commons meadows down the green track towards Ballyrean the fairy fields. Viewed from this green track the fort rises up a couple of miles away between Ballinalacken and the coast road. In the early 1900s, the historian TJ Westropp wrote: “On reaching the top, where we were told to cross ourselves as a protection against the power of the ‘Dannans’ (whose chief stronghold it was)...The older people are firmly convinced that this is a most dangerous ‘fairy fort’”
