This was a commission by someone who wanted to see the late John Paul II in goalkeeper’s gear. Most of my paintings reference Orthodox icons but this is really in the style (lots of gold). And I’m aware that it could have been titled Getting Your Hands On the Cross, Saved! etc etc. (It does look a bit like former England manager Ron Greenwood)
