Smash and Grab

Everyone has their favourite classic football strike partnership – Lineker and Beardsley, Toshack and Keegan, Sutton and Shearer, Niall Quinn and Perry Groves – but none has been as legendary or effective as that of Alan Warboys and Bruce Bannister. Nicknamed “Smash ‘n’ Grab” they played together for Bristol Rovers for three years in the mid-1970s and scored the goals that got Rovers promoted from Division Three in 1973.
