JFK At The GAA
By tim bradford
Many old cottages would have had pictures of US president John Kennedy on their walls. Along with the Pope and Dana, he was one of the true icons of Irish life of the second half of the 20th Century.
JFK visited his family’s ancestral home of Wexford during his trip to Ireland in 1963. The picture portrays Kennedy alongside the names of successful Wexford GAA teams and players. The painting, which references religious folk art and Egyptian funerary portraits, is part of an ongoing exhibition in my head entitled Pictures From A Parallel Universe Irish Cottage.
