Mavis

Mavis is a life-size figure made of recycled materials, including birds in her beer bottle top hair.

Made in 2014 for my ‘‘In The Garden with Friends” exhibition, this mosaic sculpture was such fun to do, allowing me to truly bring out the quirky side of my work.

I created her body shape in wire and cement, so she is hollow inside. The mosaic work is suitable for outdoors but not guaranteed against severe frosts. Materials include mugs as the flowers on her dress, stoneware from Crieff Pottery, bone China as her skin and brown beer bottles and marbles for her hair. She even has a Tain Pottery highlander as a tattoo on her shoulder, a couple of bees and ladybirds too!

To complete the look, she has birds asnd flowers in her hair.
