Potato Digger in the Snow

This is a long disused potato digger on Horn Head in North Donegal. The distant serpent-like island is Tory Island (after which the Whigs dubbed members of the new Conservative Party “Tories” because of the island’s then notoriety for piracy!) Tory Island’s most famous son was the late great landscape painter James Dixon, who painted with a brush made from hairs from a donkey’s tail and received encouragement (but eschewed tuition!) from the late English painter Derek Hill.
