Toward Pienza from Montepulciano

This is the largest of three similar works inspired by the fields and hills of this part of southern Tuscany Italy, from just outside one hill town (Montepulciano) toward another (Pienza, on the quite distant hill at mid-top of the canvas).  Tuscany is one of those regions of Europe in which it can truly be said that its landscape ‘retains the past in its present’  (which I suppose is just another way of saying that the scenery seems timeless).
