Sycamore & glass display stand
By Sarah Walton
The stand is made from two single wide planks of sycamore cut out on a band saw with the edges being softened by using a bull nose cutting tool. The window apertures are routered out and filled with panels of perspex that have a layer of iridescent material sandwiched between them, these are held in place by single pieces of thin moulded beading that are mitred in the corners and are flexible enough to match the curves of the windows. These are glued in place. The dome is spun from brass and was made by a metal spinning company in Shepshed, Nottingham. The patination on the dome was accelerated by the application of soldering flux.
