Vermilion Moon

Vermilion Moon
In the inter-war years of last century, relief printing was revived as an art form by artists such as Paul Nash, Edward Wadsworth and C. R. W. Nevinson. They combined their experiences of the First World War with an enthusiasm for industrial modernism, transport and flight. Vermilion Moon is a nod in their direction … a biplane glides on final approach, at night, over balloon sheds lit by intersecting patterns of searchlights. These elements were often seen in the ‘air minded’ work of the time.
This lino print in a limited edition of twelve was made at the BipArt print studios in Kemp Town, Brighton. It is printed on Canaletto 300gsm acid free paper using oil based relief ink. The Columbian printing press used for the work was built in East London in 1844.
