Labradorite, Peridot and copper pendant with copper and Labradorite Viking knit necklace - Aurora Borealis
By Abby Hook
Labradorite, Peridot and copper pendant with copper and Labradorite Viking knit necklace - Aurora Borealis a natural electrical phenomenon characterized by the appearance of streamers of reddish or greenish light in the sky, especially near the northern or southern magnetic pole. The effect is caused by the interaction of charged particles from the sun with atoms in the upper atmosphere. Labradorite has long been thought to be connected to the Aurora Borealis due to it’s spectacular flashes of light and colour.
The main part of the pendant is made with copper wire of varying gauges, which I have secured together with contrasting weaves. The central stone is a large faceted Labradorite drop, framed in woven copper. This intricate detail is surrounded by faceted Peridot roundels, each one framed in copper wire. The sweeps and swirls of copper at the top of the pendant symbolise the streamers of light in the Aurora Borealis. A faceted Peridot oval sits in the center of this wire detail, I have also added copper beads of graduating sizes to contrast the delicately woven wire.
The pendant hangs from a handmade, double knit, Viking knit chain, which I have finished with handmade wire end caps and clasp and faceted Labradorite beads.
The pendant measures 1 1/4” across (from one side to the other) and 2 1/8” tall (from the top of the bail to the bottom). The chain is 17 1/4” long.
