The Pigeon
This linocut was inspired by a visit to the ‘Oceania’ exhibition of Pacific Ocean art and artefacts held recently at the Royal Academy in London. I was very moved by a tiny wooden canoe prow-head carving of a person holding a pigeon in its hands, as apparently it is a bird which always flies home in a straight line. The lino has a lot of fine detailing which took along time to cut and it is printed in an unusual way, as parts of it are inked in one colour which is then wiped and another colour applied.
