NOCTURNE: NOCTURNE: FISHING BOATS NEAR ITSUKUSHIMA TORII GATE II
one of the oldest, largest and most famous torii gates in japan, known as the ‘floating’ torii gate. 16 metres high, it actually stands on the seabed under its own weight [hollow parts of it are loaded with tons of stones]. it appears to ‘float’ at high tide but is accessible at low tide.
the traditional japanese fishing boats use burning lanterns, visible at night from the international space station
the previous image was in oils, painted in a style like whistler.
this one mimics the ukiyo woodblock style, in acrylic and emulsion with black outlines
