Sunrise at Milecastle 37
New Years day 2019. The forecast for the next week or so was not good so it had to be today. I was up at seven from a not too late New Years Eve. I headed for a (not surprisingly) empty, Housteads car park. Milecastle 37 is a magical place. Through it’s gateway the landscape opens out over Houghton Common and this is the image that I had in mind. Through clambering around however, my breath was taken away by this view of the rising sun catching the ancient gateway, the beautiful South Tyne valley, the Moon and even that beautiful Roman Goddess, Venus!
All limited edition prints are mounted and come with a certificate of authenticity. Sizes given include the mount.
This image can be purchased in two main forms; as a single printed image, approximately A3 sized in a 50 x 40 mount or as a ‘composite image’ in which each section of the image is printed separately then mounted onto a back-board, approximately A2 sized in a 70cm x 50cm mount.

About the artist
My work is currently being produced through drawing onto an iPad. The images are created by breaking down the composition into sectors, each of which is then drawn onto the iPad. I then download the images and create the final picture by attaching the images together. The gaps left between the images create a grid effect which is sometimes determined by the composition of the landscape and sometimes determined by the distribution of detail in the image.
