japanese tryptych 'if you love somebody, set them free'
many years ago a friend and i in scotland used to make puppets and go round giving shows. we did a mime, set to ‘neptune’ from the planets suite, of a little girl who had a pink bird in a cage. not realising she was imprisoned, the bird was happy to live there and be fed. until a blue bird came down from the sky and began to woo her. the pink bird became sad and would not eat. the girl realised what she had to do and let her bird free.
the mime exists now only in my memory so i decided to recreate it in painting, with this tryptych in japanese style. i got the idea on holiday this month, and spent much of the time planning and doing skeches, even on the plane coming home!
i then painted the 3 pictures in 4 days at home, and hinged them to make a triptych.
the tryptych can be free standing on a surface, or hung on a wall
