“Taking coals to Newcastle”
Client wanted an equine triptych for the club room at the Albanese Stables in Rome.
The sculpture shown here is the left hand section of the 3 horses in bascule.
Once completed the 3 sections of the sculpture had to be carefully packed, loaded onto a sack barrow, towed by bicycle to my nearest rail station and thence to the Eurostar terminal in London. There was then an on foot rush along cobblestones through Paris to catch my connection on the sleeper train to Rome.
All this potential for harm to the sculpture was small in comparison with inspection handling by customs and security staff at St Pancras Eurostar terminal !!

The stone used for this piece was rescued from a local stonemason company’s skip
