Spring Flower Earrings in fine silver
A very pretty pair of mismatching earrings, each pair is different to the next and handmade by myself. Made from spring flower buds I found in our garden on the plum tree, I made a mould of the buds and then created the earrings using fine silver metal clay. Metal clay starts life out as fine metal particles mixed together with a clay binder and it can be used to sculpt with or texture or fold etc., it is a lovely metal medium to work with, it is then fired and the binder burns away leaving the metal particles to fuse together to form a solid silver piece, in this case fine silver, which has a 99.5% silver content, sterling is 92.5%, there are a whole myriad of metal clays these days. I have used sterling silver wire for the ear fittings as it is tougher and works better for ear fittings! The ear fittings have a lovely long back for safety! The earrings are 4cm from the top of the hook and the teardrop itself is 2.7cm the width is 1.8cm, in inches that is just over an inch and a half, the teardrop is just over an inch and the width is five eighths of an inch.
