Wildflower Rectangular Silver Pendant
This handcrafted wildflower rectangular silver pendant is quite three dimensional, made in fine silver with an interesting sterling silver hammered trace chain with a carabiner/lobster clasp. I often look around for pretty flowers and buds and grasses etc. that I think would be nice made into a piece of jewellery. I pick them and and arrange them and then create a mould and in turn a piece of jewellery using precious metal clay. I have lightly patinated the raised parts of the pendant to highlight them, giving it that vintage feel. The pendant is made in fine silver which is 99.9% pure versus sterling silver which is 92.5%. Metal clay was first created by the Japanese back in 1990 in gold and then in turn silver, it is microscopic particles of silver mixed into a binder, it can be sculpted, textured, rolled etc. it is then fired whereupon the binder burns away and the particles fuse together or sinter into a solid metal piece.
I love metal clay and the textures that can be created on a piece but please note it is not like milled metal sheet which can be made very smooth and is often highly polished. The pendant is 3.3cm (1 3/8 inch) wide and I curved one edge as I felt it looked right like that! It is 1.3cm (just under 1/2 inch) tall and the chain is 46cm (18 inches).
