Chunky raw black tourmaline sterling silver threader/swing earrings. Chunks of raw black tourmaline sit above irregular and individually made silver discs and these hang on a solid threader/swing/wishbone style ear wires which have been hammered at the ends to keep the beads in place! The silver discs are made from fine silver metal clay (99.9% silver content, sterling has a 92.5% silver content, so it is purer and works well for charms and beads etc.), metal clay starts life out as microscopic silver particles in a clay binder which can then be sculpted, shaped textured etc. it is then fired and the binder burns away leaving a solid silver piece, clever stuff first created by the Japanese in 1990 in gold, followed by silver and since then many other metals, bronze, copper, brass! The earrings are 5.7cm long from the top of the hook and 1.2cm wide, in inches that is 2 1/4 by about 1/2 an inch.
