Flower Wax Seal Stamp Fine/Sterling Silver Earrings
Pretty flower earrings created using a vintage wax seal stamp on fine silver and then patinated or oxidised and finally the raised parts are polished so they stand out from the patinated background.
Please note no two wax seal pairs are the same and som have more indentations and some are rounder.
They are made from fine silver metal clay, which is tiny particles of fine silver (99.9% purity, sterling is 92.5%) which is mixed with a clay binder and then can be textured, shaped, sculpted etc., once dried it is then fired and the clay binder burns away and the metal particles fuse together leaving a solid silver piece, first created by the Japanese and now produced in all sorts of metals! The silver metal clay is made from recycled silver! I have given them a simple sterling silver hook earring fitting but made it longer than the earring, 3.5cm as this look right to me!
The earrings are 2.9cm long from the top of the hook and 1.5cm wide and the drop length from the bottom of the hook is also 1.5cm, in inches this is just over 1 1/4 inches long, 5/8 of an inch wide and the same for the drop length.
I love metal clay but please note it does not come out like a smooth milled sheet of metal at the end of all the processes, I feel this is part of it’s charm and it is solid metal of whichever type it is made from.
