Log/Wood Textured Botanical Gold Vermeil Earrings
Individual log/wood textured oval botanical earrings in gold vermeil (see next listing for the bright silver version). The earrings are approximately 4.3cm (1 11/16 of an inch) long and the drop length from the bottom of the hook is 2.3cm (just under an inch) and they are 1.4cm (1/2 inch) at the widest point.
I was cutting back the Viburnum in the back garden and I looked at one of the branches that I had cut off and decided to cut off a slice of it thinking I would use it in some way, I then promptly forgot it and left outside but when I rediscovered it it had dried out and the lovely log texture/pattern was really prominent, so I made a mould which I then made some earrings from in fine silver metal clay and then a pair in gold vermeil, which is fine silver with a thick gold plating on it of high carat/karat gold in this case 24 ct/kt hence the richness of the colour.
I have hung them on hoop style sterling silver earring fittings, which I think works well with the shape of the drops.
If you have not come across metal clay before it was first created by the Japanese back in 1990 in gold and then in turn silver, it is microscopic particles of silver mixed into a binder, it can be sculpted, textured, rolled etc. it is then fired whereupon the binder burns away and the particles fuse together or sinter into a metal piece.
I love metal clay and the textures that can be created on a piece but please note it is not like milled metal sheet which can be made very smooth and is often highly polished.
