Textured Bark/Wood Silver Earrings, no.2
Textured wood/bark silver earrings. These earrings are nice and chunky (but not heavy!) and have lots of interesting texture created using a piece of bark from a tree in our garden, the organic, almost arrowhead shape is the shape of the bark as I found it, I made moulds from it and using fine silver metal clay (99.9% silver content versus 92.5% of sterling silver) handcrafted these earrings. The earrings are 4.3cm (1 5/8 of an inch) from the top of the hook, the drop length from the bottom of the hook is 3.2cm (1 1/4 inches) and the width 1.2cm (just under 1/2 inch).
Metal clay was first created by the Japanese back in 1990 in gold and then in turn silver, it is microscopic particles of silver mixed into a binder, it can be sculpted, textured, rolled etc. it is then fired whereupon the binder burns away and the particles fuse together or sinter into a solid metal piece, in this case fine silver 99.5% silver content.
