Marisco Castle Lundy Island

The ancient Marisco Castle on south Lundy facing across the sea to the north Devon coast. A tidal rip curves away to the right as the tide ebbs. I was a guest on Lundy of the Cloud Appreciation Society who invited me to give a talk about the sky in art as part of their annual Sky Gathering. Whilst I was painting this picture for an exhibition on Lundy I was also being interviewed by a Reuters journalist who had flown out specially from Japan. We mainly discussed climate change and my recent work with climate scientists in England, Germany and Finland. The irony of our grave concerns for the future and her heavily polluting flight from Japan was not lost on either of us. but I was happy to share understandings of the existential problem that faces all of us every day.
