The Muddy River
One of a series of paintings made in the 1990s about flooded landscapes. This was influenced by growing concerns about the possible effects of climate change on sea levels and the weather, concerns which grow ever stronger as the decades of increasing carbon pollution pass. The remnant on the horizon is the remains of an unidentified concrete structure. The river is tidal or perhaps the aftermath of a massive tidal surge flood on a coastal landscape. The complex layered clouds suggest that a storm may have recently passed through.
