Serpent Hair Barrette - Large Copper - Hair clip or slide, shawl or scarf pin

You can wear this as a hair barrette, hair clip or slide or as a shawl or scarf pin and is made with copper wire which I have hammered. A stylish way to clip your hair up. It is easy to wear and does not pull your hair, like bands can do, avoiding the ‘ponytail headache’!

The last image in the sequence shows you how to secure it in place. You can clip all of your hair, or just a section of it and wear it up or down.

Made with very thick 8 gauge wire, I start by hand shaping the snake design. I then begin the long process of carefully hammering the copper wire all the way round, to accentuate the curves. Then the snake is hammered, to flatten the wire and shaped, to give them a slight curve. The hammering not only adds detail, but it also hardens the piece into shape.

Once the shaping of the barrette is complete, I begin filing and sanding, so that the ends are perfectly smooth and tapered to a curved point, making it comfortable when against the skin. Once it is finished, the piece is tumbled, to clean and polish it and then hand polished, with an anti tarnish agent, to bring it to a high shine.

This design is adjustable, by passing the pin through different parts of the spirals increases or decreases the space between the barrette and the pin, allowing you to secure different amount of hair or fabric.

It measures 2 1/2” wide and 2 3/4” tall and has a curve which is 1/4”. The pin is 4 1/2” long.
