Hair Barrette in copper with Fossil - Woven Dragonfly - Hair clip or shawl pin

The dragonfly, as a creature of the wind, symbolises change, transformation, adaptability, and self-realization

The structure has been made with a heavy gauge copper wire which I have hand shaped and then hammered, Once happy with the shape, I file and sand the wire. The tail of the frame has been woven together with thin copper wire, adding intricate detail but also securing the wire together. The body of the dragonfly has a beautiful large drop shaped piece of nautaloid fossil as the focal point, which I have encased in delicately knitted copper wire to create a handmade bezel which captures the stone. The Dragonfly itself is made using thick copper wires, that have been hand shaped and hammered to form the frames and then delicate woven and knitted think copper wires have been used to embellish the design and add detail. The dragonfly is 2 1/4” tall and 4 1/2” wide

I have oxidised this piece, giving it an antique effect, to really highlight the detail.

It measures 4 1/2” wide and 2 1/4” tall and has a deep curve which is 1/2”. The pin is 6 1/3” long.

This can be worn as a hair barrette or Shawl pin.
