Painted live from a SKY TV Portrait Artist of the Week live Zoom cast in May 2020. I had not taken part in this event before so decided to keep things very simple as I was sitting at my office desk with little space for the usual clutter of studio painting equipment. I used just white, black and an orangy yellow knowing I could mix a wider range of harmonious colours from this choice. Rob talked a lot and kept moving his head around and changing his facial expression which makes life difficult for the painters but he was very interesting to listen to. In the end I took several screenshots and worked from the best of these. The combination of the live sitter and the screen shot (printed out) was actually quite good. Rob is quite close to his computer camera which distorts his proportions compared to how he looks on TV normally. It makes his eyes look bigger and wider apart for example. It took me about 1.5 hours to do this and I stopped because I thought I had captured him well enough without making drastic changes and loosing the original spontaneity, which can be a problem in longer sittings.
