Phantasme 1

“Phantasme 1”

Surreal paper collage mixing retro film stars and classical art.

A ‘phantasme’ (in English Fantasy) is an imaginary representation of an obvious or unconscious desire.

In ‘Phantasme 1’ a couple is represented on the background of ‘The rape of the Daughters of Leucippus’ by Rubens.

The authentic black and white illustration from the French film magazine ‘Mon Film’, 1947 is added to the background scene.

This illustration is a detail of the portraits of Joan Fontaine and Tyrone Power, for the film ‘This above All’.

Images are authentic cut outs from vintage magazines and books.

Mixed media composition on 20 x 20 cm canvas.
