This painting was inspired by a visit to the Norfolk coast town of Cromer, with its distinctive light (the coastline faces due north) and flint stone beach. Shallow Water, Cromer continues Christopher’s preoccupation with the movement and colours of the ocean, a movement frozen in time between the ancient past and an endless future.

The artist’s unsentimental approach to his subjects combine two great passions - a love of traditional painting techniques and a fascination with the photographic image. The result of this are paintings that are both painterly and highly realistic.
