Frida, Pop 1

‘Frida, Pop 1’
October 2022

From the Frida Series; a portrait series of Frida Kahlo.

As in the original black and white photograph, the work shows a challenging, defiant and proud woman.

In the Pop compositions Frida Kahlo is represented as both strong and scarred, in pop art inspired vivid colours.

Portraits in this series are constructed with different colour compositions.
The portraits in purple, pink, yellow and sepia are torn and recomposed in order to create the final portrait.

Each work in this series is unique and original with variations in the colour schemes.

Inspired by Andy Warhol’s portrait series, each work is based on one identical image. Unlike screen-print, the Frida Pop series is produced with reproduction techniques that make each composition unique and original.

The images are mirrored, enlarged and printed, then transferred onto canvas and finished with pastels. Rough lines and torn edges, remind the viewer of a worn vintage poster, yet the overall impression is tranquil and soft.

Signed, varnished and delivered with a certificat of authenticity.
