Winter’s World

The composition is based on the famous ‘Christina’s World’ painting by Andrew Wyeth.

I chose to change the season and also to paint a peopleless landscape, replacing Christina with a broken tree, after storm damage, to indicate the bleakness of deep winter. Though the snow has melted, there is little sign of life, just a long slog uphill, a metaphor for my feelings at this time of year when Spring still seems a long way off.
