Hair Barrette in copper with Garnet - Embellished Butterflies - Hair clip or shawl pin

You can wear this as a metal butterfly hair barrette, brooch, hair clip or slide or as a shawl or scarf pin and is made with copper wire which I have hammered. A stylish way to clip your hair up. It is easy to wear and does not pull your hair, like bands can do, avoiding the ‘ponytail headache’!

The last image in the sequence shows you how to secure it in place. You can clip all of your hair, or just a section of it and wear it up or down.

The structure has been made with a heavy gauge copper wire which I have hand shaped and then hammered, Once happy with the shape, I file and sand the wire. The outer edge at the bottom of the frame has been woven together with thin copper wire, adding intricate detail but also securing the wire together. The butterflies are made separately, to allow the intricate wire woven detail to be formed. Next I secure them in position on the barrette, carefully stitching them in place.

I have oxidised this piece, giving it an antique effect, to really highlight the detail.

This design is adjustable, by passing the pin through different parts of the spiral increases or decreases the space between the barrette and the pin, allowing you to secure different amount of hair or fabric.

It measures 2 1/2” wide and 2 1/3” tall. The pin is 5 3/4” long.

This can be worn as a hair barrette or Shawl pin.
