The heart is a traditional icon for the seat of our emotions. This work is about emotional pain, the kind we all experience at sometime in our lives, how it accumulates and how we deal with it. The work has its inspiration in the fetish art of West Africa, where a carved fetish figure or animal is invested with magical powers and becomes the focus of ritual, in which a sharp piece of iron is driven into the fetish.
