The Elm is Dead: Long Live the Elm (Summer)
Based on sketches made at Castle Eden Dene National Nature Reserve, Peterlee, County Durham. A venerable old elm collapses gradually whilst a sapling elm rises up to replace it. This cycle of rejuvenation and replacement is very evident at Castle Eden Dene because the site managers, Natural England don’t intervene too much and let old diseased trees rot and fall as much as public health and safety allows.
