Rotterdam et moi 1

Rotterdam et moi 1
2024
This composition features two illustrations that are torn in two parts, the edges ragged.
The top image represents the top half of the statue by Ossip Zadkine, ‘The Destroyed City’.
The Destroyed City is a bronze memorial sculpture in the Dutch city of Rotterdam. It commemorates the German bombing of Rotterdam on 14 May 1940, which destroyed the medieval centre of the city.
The bottom half represents a child running in the fields.
Both figures contribute to the dynamic and mouvement of this work.
The figurative approach juxtaposes reality with fantasy, capturing a moment of blissful release, defiance of gravity. It’s an invitation to viewers to grasp the unexpected, challenging the conventions of form and space.
Rotterdam et moi 1, was part of the ‘Et moi, et moi, et moi’ exhibition at the Mairie d’Honneur Les Asphodèles in Saint Raphaël, France in 2024.
In this art exhibition three female artists presented their personal mythologies, trying to find the key to their true essence through their works.
My story was about my family and roots in Rotterdam.
It is a mixed media composition on canvas.

About the artist
Of all forms of art, Marian prefers to express herself through collage. Her analog compositions combine acrylic paint and oil paint, original illustrations dating from 1900 till today and three dimensional recycled components.
