An Bóthar go dti an Dumha Goirt, Acaill, Maigh Eo.

By William Swann

An Bóthar go dti an Dumha Goirt, Acaill, Maigh Eo.

The Road to Dugort, Achill Island, County Mayo.  Oil on canvas 30 x 20 inches.  Framed size 36 x 26 inches.

Frame colour “Charleston Grey”, Slip colour “Dimity” both by Farrow and Ball.

The mass of Slievemore sits above Dugort and Lough Doo, dominating the view.  The cloud-cap lingering over the summit is a common occurrence with Atlantic weather.  The main focus of the painting is the evening light, raking across the fields.  This is a typical landscape of settlement on the edges of the mountain and bog.
