An t-Àth leathann, an t-eilean sgitheannach
Broadford, Isle of Skye. Oil on canvas 30 x 20 inches. Framed size 36 x 26 inches.
Frame colour “Charleston Grey”, Slip colour “Dimity” both by Farrow and Ball.
Broadford sits at the head of the bay of the same name beneath Beinn na Caillich, one of the Red Hills, translated as “Hill of the old woman”. The name derives from the summit cairn, the burial site of a Scandinavian Princess from the Viking period.
Broadford is now an important regional centre for South Skye. A series of crofting townships fringe the bay, sitting below the expanse of moorland and bog land characteristic of the Isle of Skye.
Broadford and its setting below the Red Hills is lovely but is often overlooked in these days of social media bucket lists.
