Unity Through Symbolism

The Hamsa Hand is commonly seen worldwide, it transcends all cultural boundaries, embraces various religions and is beneficial today as it was in ancient times, where it is used as a symbol of protection against negativity.  It is a universal sign of divine protection, power and strength that dates to ancient Mesopotamia.  The Eye and Hand throughout the world are powerfully intertwined with enriching spiritual life.  For example, in Islam It is perceived as the Hand of Fatima, where it gives divine protection.  In Jewish religion The Hand of Miriam reminds the wearer to remember to praise God.  In Christian religion The Hand of Mary protects women ensuring healthy pregnancies. 
Each religion is true to its’ own nature and moral integrity.
Seeing and Creating is powerfully intertwined for me as an artist.  In the woods where I walk there is a spiritual connection between each tree in how they enrich the other in the process, here we have a symbiotic relationship. 
My journey in creating this piece of artwork from perception to creation involved using my daughter’s eye and hand.  I considered how I could interpret these ideas in terms of sincerity and humility. The process involved observing and recording the eye and hand in the form of sketches and photographs, translating these into a piece of artwork where the eye and hand are in harmony. The process allowed me to explore and see clearly the “seeing and creating” as an intertwined spiritual process.

Margot is a British based Artist currently in Herefordshire, United Kingdom. Margot studied an FdA in Creative Art Practice at Hereford College of Art, where she was encourage to research, take risks and be brave. Given the opportunity to explore and experiment with a wide range of disciplines. For example print making, small metals, ceramics, photography, drawing/painting,
digital media and textiles has given her the skills and confidence to thrive on the course and beyond. The course gave her time to decide what she wanted to specialise in. She developed an independent practice and developed her own voice.
Margot’s main artistic inspirations comes from the Renaissance Masters in particular, Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt and Andre Vercocchio’s ancient techniques. Margot’s main medium in her current artwork collection is working with silverpoint. Her themes are exploring the power of the moment - life. Appreciating moments that have passed and preserving her stories through words and drawings.
